Mount and blade floris how to establish trade agreements

Help a beginner out! [FLORIS MOD]

Greetings! I'm new to Mount & Blade, and I've decided to play with the Floris mod for my first playthrough. Now, I've completed the starting quest given by the merchant, successfully. After that though, I was having a bit of a trouble getting around. Did some errand-quests for some lords and tried hunting down bandits.

Here lies the problem, the bandits completely outclass my little army. I've started in the North, and I'll never attack Sea Raiders ever again. I got obliterated even though I've outnumbered them by 10 men or so. I've done some reading and noticed, that Sea Raiders are a much higher tier than my starting army consisting mostly of L1 soldiers.

I've read about so called "Looters", low level bandits, optimal for leveling up your starting army. But I never came across a band of looters ever, only Sea Raiders and Forest Bandits and Deserters.

I love a tough start, I like non-handholding games and I'm very pleased to see M&B goes a similar path, but I need atleast a means to get going without resorting to borrowing money and get high-tier soldiers early on simply to fight Bandits.

Is there something wrong with my game, or is it normal that Looters or low level bandits just don't exist in Floris?

Cheers and thanks in advance! Sorry for the wall of text. :)

I normally join a lords army for a while and let the money roll in. Once it gets boring just desert and take as many men with you as you can. You should have enough money to bribe a few kingdoms to be neutral to you whilst raiding the rest.

It sounds as if you are playing Floris Expanded. This is one of the harder mods, and if you have never played Warband, it is not a good idea to start with it.

A good player has a few options - he could create a horse archer, make money in the arena, get a horse and bow, and go slaughter quite a few bandit types single-handedly. Or borrow money and hire mercenaries to hunt bandits. Or just ride around the map for a while, collecting companions, and equipping them with money from trading.

Or, as it was suggested above, enlist in a lord army, for experience and equipment.

But. if you have never played before, there is not much anyone can do to help you. Even at low difficulty, which you are no doubt using, Floris may be an insurmountable challenge for a newbie.

Play Native for awhile.

Hey guys. Thanks for the replies so far!

Joining a lords army was one of my first thoughts, so I might try that. Since there are bands of low level bandits in Native, from what I've read, I was hoping there'd be a low level enemy in Floris Expanded as well, just to get you started.

The starting quest had low-level bandits. Kind of a bummer to see there aren't any in the mod. I suppose I'll install the basic version of the mod, just to have a little bit of extra stuff but keep the rest Native?

I'd rather not have my first playthrough go through tournaments to earn gold. I kind of want a traditional approach for it, building up your army, rags to riches, train a low level army against low level enemies and just grow on more tasks, you know what I mean.

Since you are new to the game another thing you can do is go to the training grounds and practice combat. Also, in Floris at the training grounds you can spar with your own troops and have them gain experience and level. Like Tuidjy mentioned trade and earn money, you should be faster than any bandit by yourself especially if you have pathfinding.

Well, I wouldn't mind fighting bandits if they didn't just completely outclass anything I can throw at them. After like 40 days ingame all I see is high level raiders and manhunters, not really giving me the option to do quests that want me to hunt down bandits.

well you can adjust mod setting in camp menu

What setting would I need to adjust in that regard?

Sea Raiders are a tough bandit unit. The only thing tougher would be Mountain Bandits, but Sea Raiders have the better gear. If you're looking to hunt bandits, focus on Forest Bandits and Looters.

I've read about so called "Looters", low level bandits, optimal for leveling up your starting army. But I never came across a band of looters ever, only Sea Raiders and Forest Bandits and Deserters.

Looters are there, but they're probably less common than other bandit types. They're generally near cities, so get scooped up by patrols pretty often. Deserters - You don't want to mess with these in the early game. They're generally tiered combat units and are experienced soldiers.

..
Is there something wrong with my game, or is it normal that Looters or low level bandits just don't exist in Floris.

No, they exist. It's just that the early game is tough and Looters often get snapped up by patrols.

Focus first on doing some easy quests for exp. You want to focus on getting your army up in size, but still manageable money-wise. Then, by the time you can start taking on small bandit groups, you should have some advanced units. Don't be afraid to hire some mercenaries, if you think you can afford them!
